Supreme Court officially passes on revisiting its 50-year-old doctrine of “qualified immunity” for law enforcement officers, despite intense national outcry over police misconduct and legal protections that shield cops from liability.

While the Civil Rights Act of 1871 gives Americans the unambiguous ability to sue public officials over civil rights violations, the Supreme Court subsequently limited liability to only those rights that have become"clearly established law.” Critics say the standard is near-impossible to meet. indignantTX That ruling don't surprise me, scotus is Latin for kangaroo court.

Why not just require police to have ' malpractice ' insurance, like doctors have. Then you can have a way to get some kind of Justice when the cops cross the line

TearsaSmith Well that's super weak of them

Good, let evey single member of congress go on record and vote. Its not the SC job to legislate.

The Mainstream media was coopted by the deep state with the ultimate goal of destroying America. Do not trust them.

'Without explanation, the justices declined to take up the case of Norman Cooper, a 33-year-old black father, who was tased nine times by two San Antonio police officers while having an acute mental-health episode inside his parents’ home in 2015 and later died.'

They're in the back room celebrating their Dred Scott decision and an endless score of horrible rulings throughout their checkered history.

OMG-OmniabsoluteGravitational-Constant: Thus USA🇺🇸 is a 'Might makes Right' Nation in a the 'courts-of-law'. Wakeup US/Americans🇺🇸. Metamorphosize, inspirit & commend USA's🇺🇸 {Second Coming of Jesus Christ's ultimate & complete Consummation}'Right makes Might' as UNIVERSE'S-LAW

Here's my thoughts. Qualified immunity is good and bad. It lets cops police with some reassurance that they're not going to be sued for ridiculous shit. But its too shielding as it presently is. Make it so that it meets a national standard instead of department standard.

Every person looting, burning, assaulting, destroying, and terrorizing their neighbors are democrats. Remember that in November.

Lol so in the next for years we will be rid of RBG, and maybe one more... trump picks will be in the courts for the next 50 years! Imagine if he gets three pics in these next 4 years! He will have put the majority in himself!

Why would an employee be liable for policies of the government employer? Crazy

The Officers needed this big victory! Please abc won't you join me in supporting the police? Instead of the thugs that tear down statues!

SCOTUSblog

This is why the Republicans that the idiot in chief put in is trying to ruin America

Thank God

Business as usual. Too many spineless people in positions of power in this country.

Yet they want us to vote blue for the supreme court.

Another reason to vote out all Repukes, because they won't do anything about this.

Balance. Liberals take an L

Democracy ? Yeah right

Supreme court updates could have been just what qualified immunity needed. A lost opportunity

Fox Butterfield runs ABC News twitter feed now.

Chink in public union armor.

So let's hear you shriek about rampant crime by black men. Black men kill a lot more people than the police. But the doesn't fit your left-wing crime-loving agenda

Scotus drops the ball on one of the most heinous laws allowed..

Good for the Supreme Court. The Democrats can roll that one up and smoke it. 👍

I wasn't in favor of defunding the police. Until now!!

The facts are what the supreme court has done is to enable murderers with protections and rapist thieves and corruption this is what that shield provides from the law they take a oath to up hold yet they don’t have to follow the law how dumb is that?

Why, of all times, the worst of time's, at a time that it is most crucial time in American culture, and society, are they ignoring one of the most important and needed revisit of that doctrine? Shame on you Supreme court on your complacency, and supremacists behavior!!

Get ready for more disappointment

HeleneFernand16 Thank God! For once SCOTUS got it right.

Is that the same Supreme court that opposes President Trump?

Easy solution employ all officers under self employment saves Americans the robery to a fund the american people did not agree to pay when the people are robed to fund killers well somenes to blame

Thank you SCOTUS....Streets full of guns... Lawless cops....Rampent bribery of public officials....Dismantling voting rights and instigating voter suppression...Dismantling equal rights and instigating discrimination...

madmissmattie The US Supreme Court says Congress must fix 'qualified immunity' for law enforcement officers however Grim Reaper McConnell will just let any legislation die. VoteGOPOut PoliceReformNow

Ireland0828 B52Malmet HillBeverlyhill Well now SCOTUS thinks Qualified immunity is ok with them. Police can kill people with Impunity. Not face any civil consequences.

Good decision by the Supreme Court..

Then citizens should also have 'qualified immunity' when a cop is near them and they take pre-emptive action.

Let the killing continue then

SCOTUS upheld 'separate but equal' doctrine in Plessy v Ferguson, so 🖕🏽 y'all. 😒

This is a legislative issue anyway. Congress needs to step up and do it's damn job.

Well........ya. The Supreme Court is not supposed to make laws, they are suppose to interpret them...right? Meaning....they shouldn't be reviewing this. Right?

I guess they don’t see what’s going on?

I guess if they stop with the selective manipulation of racism They might actually get the justice system to reform like its supposed to Having a uniform does not give you the power to do has you please That should be made loud and clear

Thank god!

The Mayor will take the lead to DefundThePolice and get rid of QualifiedImmunity

Hey, have you guys reported on the massive increase of crime taking place in the DefundPolice 'hotspots' i.e. New York City, Seattle, etc?
