The Supreme Court decided not to hear a case brought by U.S. steel importers against tariffs that Trump imposed in 2018, effectively ending the legal challenge and leaving the steep duties in place on imports from Europe, China and many other countries

The Supreme Court's decision is no surprise, except perhaps to the steel import group's lawyers, said Bill Reinsch, a former Commerce Department official now at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

"The decision ... is acknowledgment once again that Congress acted within its constitutional authority when it authorized the president to take action to adjust imports that threaten to impair our national security," Thomas Gibson, president of the American Iron and Steel Institute, said in a statement.

However, various efforts in Congress to claw back some of the authority given to the president under the Section 232 have failed to win enough support in either the House or the Senate to become law. Grassley maintains the bill he is working on is meant to help Congress reclaim some of its trade powers from the executive branch, rather than to rein in Trump. He noted, however, that Trump’s use of the law “alerted us to the fact that Congress has been too negligent in the past of protecting our constitutional responsibility.”

Most, if not all, of the countries hit by Trump's duties have retaliated by slapping duties on American exports.

SCOTUS is cool with Trump raising taxes on American corporations.

Good choice

Win for Trump, a loss for American's. This used to cost 800.00 dollars and Now costs $1600.00 dollars... YOU PAY FOR TARRIFS..NOT CHINA

It is odd that while a lot of people would agree that putting an embargo against a country is punitive, and indeed it was and is used this way, a tariff is something that the country benefits. A tariff is an embargo against oneself.

So AMERICAN companies will keep paying those tariffs. Does The Pres still thinking this is contributing to our economy?

This ruling allows domestic producers to raise prices to equal the importers. Therefore, making the importers price equal. This is what was done and we will continue to by the better quality German and Indian steel.

Well done as those actions are the perview of the executive.. Thank god the court is not democratic they would have fined the executive branch with funds going to “ let’s help California “.

Trump wins, America loses.

Pennsylvania will benefit from SCOTUS decision not to take the case. Good news for PA steel. Thx SCOTUS.
