Scientists at Imperial College London will start the first clinical trials of a potential vaccine this week. 9News

Scientists at Imperial College London will start the first clinical trials of a potential COVID-19 vaccine this week with more than £45 million in backing from the British government and philanthropic donors.

Scientists at Imperial College London will start immunizing people in Britain this week with their experimental coronavirus shot, becoming the latest entry into the race to find an effective vaccine. When injected, it instructs muscle cells to produce virus proteins to protect against future infection. In animal tests, the vaccine was shown to be safe and showed "encouraging signs of an effective immune response", Professor Shattock's team said in a statement.

COVID-19 trial indicates cheap steroid can save livesResearchers say a cheap and widely used steroid called dexamethasone is the first drug to save the lives of COVID-19 patients. But doctors who 'have been burned before' want to see the data for themselves. Hmm, interesting and somewhat makes sense as inflammation would be magnanimous in reaction to both the virus as well as a response against clots. I don’t know why the researchers don’t show transparency even if it’s experimental and doesn’t meet ethics guidelines. Hopefully this doesn’t trigger the worried well to try to stockpile. It’s a vital drug for chemo and autoimmune patients. The last thing they need is a shortage If it's cheap how will they profit from it?

Coronavirus update: 'Major breakthrough' as trial shows cheap steroid can reduce COVID-19 death ratesOxford University scientists are hailing the use of cheap and widely used steroid Dexamethasone as a 'major breakthrough' in the treatment of coronavirus after it is found to reduce death rates in COVID-19 patients. Dexamethasone is a potent anti-inflammatory drug. It should be emphasised that it doesn’t kill viruses so people don’t start using it indiscriminately like they did with hydoxychloroquine.
