Protesters chanting “Black lives matter” blocked traffic on Interstate 5 in Seattle, Washington, on the evening on June 15, in support of justice for Black victims of police violence and to demand the defunding of police. Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County have said they are committed to continuing protest action until their demands are met.
Some of the key demands BLMSKC are requiring of the City of Seattle include divestment of the Seattle Police Department by at least $100 million, with a focus on the demilitarization of the police force; community-based healthcare reform; an end to the school-to-prison pipeline that disproportionately affects Black and non-White youth.
