Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Monday, June 15, that detained Sen. Leila de Lima should have sought bail years back.

Guevarra pointed this is out after the lawmaker filed before the Muntinlupa City regional trial court a motion asking that she be granted bail.

The senator is facing three drug charges concerning her alleged involved in the proliferation of the illegal drugs trade at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. “The facts are clear and they cannot be ignored: all of the country’s intelligence agencies never had a single report stating that De Lima was involved in any way in the trading of illegal drugs,” read the motion.

De Lima was arrested on February 24, 2017 after the courts issued warrants for her arrest over the drug charges she is facing.
