LGBT rights have become a hot-button issue ahead of a 28 June presidential election in Poland, with President Andrzej Duda arguing that the promotion of LGBT rights needlessly sexualises children and harms families.

WARSAW - Polish President Andrzej Duda on Sunday asked international media to"stop distributing fake news" after extensive coverage of a campaign speech in which he compared what he called LGBT"ideology" to Soviet-era communist indoctrination.

"Yet again, as part of dirty political fight, my words are put out of context. I truly believe in diversity and equality," Duda tweeted in English on Sunday, tagging media organisations including Reuters, the Associated Press and the Financial Times.Duda is an ally of the ruling nationalist Law and Justice Party , which dismisses LGBT rights as an invasive foreign influence undermining Poland's traditional values.
