The federal government has announced it will join a legal fight that includes businessman Clive Palmer and state tourism operators against Western Australia's hard border closure amid the coronavirus fallout. 9News

Attorney-General Christian Porter has said the government will assist the High Court on points of Constitutional law as part of the challenge, due to Prime Minister Scott Morrison's view that state borders should now be open and free trade and movement between states should resume.

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan is facing an increasing High Court legal challenge from the federal government over the state's border closure. "Look, we're trying to do the right thing by the people of Western Australia, by the health of Western Australians and by the economy of Western Australia," he told reporters today.
