Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell last week tapped Scott to oversee the drafting of new policing reform legislation in response to public outrage over high profile police killings of African Americans including George Floyd, who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck. In the latest case to trigger anger among activists, protesters shut down a major highway in Atlanta on Saturday and burned down a Wendy’s restaurant where a black man was shot dead by police as he tried to escape arrest.

The police need to adopt a more neutral stance while the country recovers from the frustration and damage of the Corona Virus lock downs. Overlooking petty crime and in some cases DUI until the damage of this virus has had a chance to repair. Otherwise they risk taking the blame.
Why not remove the concept of local police and make all police State or Federal police subject to the same standards and training without the fear of local political interference.

This touches on something I never understood. People rail against police unions, but if they have to be sworn in, can't that be revoked? If revoked and now the officer cannot fulfill his contractual obligations, can't they be fired and the union would be powerless?
