Years before Minneapolis, two nations, Ukraine and Georgia, dissolved their police forces to start fresh, only to find that bigger changes were needed

While those countries are different from the U.S. in many ways, their experiences offer lessons for American cities looking to reform their police forces.

Minneapolis, in particular, is considering plans to disband its police department after the killing of George Floyd in police custody and the protests against police brutality and...

how's that working out?

What kind of crap is this

How weird that those countries are heavily influence by Russia....

is trash, comparing apples to oranges.

Wall Street Journal likening the USA with Ukraine and Georgia! HO-LY SH*T! Has anyone from WSJ ever been to either of those countries? 🐸

Ah socialism!!

JFC on a pogo stick, they are not comparable.

The opposition and split of the two super groups is the biggest obstacle to the implementation of democracyIrrational opposition and interest domination are the key points

WSJ is just as bad as the NYT

Ukraine and Georgia, really!

This is a great article. TY

Don’t forget Somalia and Mexico. That has gone well.

Yeah those two countries aren’t good examples lol

There are LOTS of good people and they will rise to this calling. HOWEVER, they have to be hired. Problem was/is the corrupt don't want to commune with the Just. There needs to be extreme oversight here. The Authority needs to be divied out, never in the hands of just 1 person.

U cant find a black person in either country so irrelevant

. presumably the police reflect the society...

Police shouldn’t be allowed to use firearms unless the suspect has one. No matter if they resist the arrest or not, get better training, learn how to fight, and beat criminals if necessary but don’t use lethal force.

While I applaud the fact that the WSJ has the integrity to represent both sides, in this case it’s silly and dangerous pandering to the mob that will actually make us less safe. And yes, this includes black and brown people. In fact, it will impact those communities far greater.

Buy more guns and ammo. Especially ammo!

Most people stopped reading at it works

Are you kidding me? :D Ukrainians have the most corrupt police in the world. I mean absolutely nothing have changed there. What the heck are you even talking about. I employ few ukrainians and those stories which they occasionally tell are absolutely nuts.

Both countries were invaded by Russia.

An interesting article. Highlighting that policing involves distinct pieces which must actually interconnect vs. forced fits. Does Defund the Police mean privatizing police? Who knows. It still comes down to individual officers being lawful, moral, and ethical.

Ukraine have also been extremely corrupt... 🤔

2 of the most corrupt countries on the planet

Degradation of civilization creates a perception of bad policing. Socialism with its divisions and mobs brings anger which the politicians redirect at the peacekeepers. It is a system that peaks in failure. tt:DevinNunes

Georgia & Ukraine vs. Minneapolis? This is not even comparing apples to oranges. This is comparing an iPhone to an oak tree.

America is a shit-hole nowadays but please..... there is no comparison between those two failed and corrupt countries run by savage thugs

Both of these countries were fu...ed up with this

HMMMM

Let's embrace LAW & ORDER in our country. USA is not Ukraine. Ukraine is not USA. USA is not Georgia. Georgia is not USA. A Productive Citizen Lives and Breathes by Respecting All Peoples, Property and the Law of the Land. Let's Return To CIVILITY and COMMON COURTESY.

How the mighty has fallen

Tbilisi is one of the most dangerous cities in the world

Where are Ukraine and Georgia comparable to the United States? Have mainstream media completely ignored common sense in order to realize the communist dream?

.... Minneapolis?...

Ukraine the biggest mafia in the world, the largest human trafficking ring in the world all happening due to no policing...add in corruption

Democrats want zero cops zero borders, zero USA

What the hell are you people thinking about comparing two countries did at one point we’re connected to Russia. This is America in case you have forgotten regardless of the difficulties we have to and we will Demand accountability from our police departments not negotiable

Georgia and Ukraine don't have much in the way of racial diversity, especially Ukraine. Ignoring race ignores the root cause of much (not all, but much) of American police brutality.

I guess in American everyone have gun, better chance of fairness in no-police-state.

So many people don’t believe me that there is a nation called Georgia.

Hot take: is supporting Donald Trump's crimes during an election year. The real problem in Ukraine is the Police Dept. (Not the extortion). Got it. Thanks! Bye.

We learned a few lessons from the former Communists

So should the US compare themselves to these two countries. Interesting ?

Ukraine and Georgia. Two corrupt countries. Granted corruption in this country is worse. How is this related to the market or Wall Street? Asking for a friend.

lol yes, please force the Democrats to run on this

Are you seriously holding up Ukraine and Georgia as the 'how to' model? Who are you people?

And George Soros was behind that too.
