The national survey on June 9-10, shows the public broadly on the side of Democratic lawmakers, who proposed a series of changes to police departments in the United States as protesters gathered nationwide to condemn the death of George Floyd and racism.
For example, 82% of Americans want to ban police from using chokeholds, 83% want to ban racial profiling, and 92% want federal police to be required to wear body cameras. Trump, who has been trying to win back suburban voters by positioning himself as a “law-and-order” president, called on states to crack down on the protests. Trump had previously said that he could use military forces if states did not quell protests, which have been mostly peaceful apart from some arson and looting and clashes with officers.
According to the poll, six out 10 Republicans supported a provision that would allow “victims of police misconduct to sue police departments for damages.”
The Unions are the problem. They make it nearly impossible to fire bad cops!
Including republicans.......what is that supposed to mean? Pathetic journalism
Why did you add “ including Republicans” as tho it were some sort of surprise that the party who wants to limit government power would want to limit government power...
Yes, reform. Not disbanding or defunding.
Those are not 'sweeping changes.' We need to shift to supporting families and neighborhoods, ending the war on drugs and shift our policy to one based on harm reduction. More effective and saves money (and lives).
Yes, I believe in disbanning choke holds. But I do not agree with defunding of the police. Is ANTFA going to be our new police, if this country doesn't stop bending to BLM it may very well may be. BLM has never answered the question of what their connecto to them is.
What exactly is racial profiling? How does one differentiate lawful policing from racial profiling?
Make it easier for departments to fire bad cops. Get rid of police unions and use the extra money to offer officers 2 hours a month of professional therapy. Make cops financially responsible for legal expenses for criminal charges
