the plans, which he described as a"death knell" for the city's freedoms. The UK, Australia and Canada have also expressed their"deep concern".The statement was drafted by former Hong Kong Governor Christopher Patten and former British Foreign Secretary Malcolm Rifkind, and signed by 186 policy makers and politicians from 23 countries.
They include 17 members of the US Congress, among them Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who is acting chairman of the Intelligence Committee, and Senator Ted Cruz as well as Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, who is the most senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The US is currently considering whether to extend Hong Kong's preferential trading and investment privileges. President Trump has also weighed in, saying the US would react strongly if the law went through - without giving details.Hong Kong, a semi-autonomous region and an economic powerhouse, was required to introduce such a law after the handover from British control to Chinese rule in 1997.
Beijing may also fear September's elections to Hong Kong's legislature. If last year's success for pro-democracy parties in district elections is repeated, government bills could potentially be blocked.Hong Kong's leader Carrie Lam, who is seen as part of the pro-Beijing political establishment, has pledged full support for the proposed law and said the city's freedoms would remain unchanged.
One country, two systems is just a lie... StandwithHongKong

Mere words, then. Where’s the action against China?
The whole world should be alert to the ambition and evil of Chinese Government. The breach of ' One country Two System' in Hong Kong is the best demonstration to show how shameless the CCP is, Dont trust it!
This is actually worse than the extradition bill. Hong Kong’s future is hugely concerning. The timing of this bill is extremely dangerous. If people take to the streets, the virus could spread exponentially!
You can report on Hong Kong but not Barrow,
There's a school of thought that say Manchester is no longer in the north and that: Leeds, Manchester Sheffield Birmingham are part of the south, because they are dependence on London
I've just got up and put the news on. And blow me nearly every contributor was from Manchester. Fahy, about Dominic cousins, some woman about fashion from Manchester metro uni and some woman from wilmslow, god knows what she was on about.
Надеюсь,что это правда
谴责个屁,放着好好的日子不过,学西方搞自由。这是孩子野惯了,心收不回来了,教训一顿就好了
Some people want to tie up China's hands so she can not defense herself! Entertainment style election is very deceptive! It can be sometimes worse than nothing.
Xi couldn't care less what anyone thinks, he has a grip of power over Hong Kong now, and he is going to drag them kicking and screaming into Chinas regime.
CCP once again breached their promise to the people of Hong Kong. But not surprised.
And nothing will be done about it... china will be allowed to carry on with this shit because we buy all their cheap shite they manufacture and they can just shut the supply lines. That godforsaken country has the world by the balls, and there's fuck all we can do about it.
Don't forget China is flexing its muscles the South China sea's disputed Spratly Islands. China's pushing Huawei suggeting potential spying issues. Spread ov Covid-19? more to the story I'm sure. It seems China is now starting to make economic gains due to the world crisis.
Beijing can set up a new agency for enforcing this Orwellian law in Hong Kong, bypassing local authorities. Is this still called OneCountryTwoSystems? It is just a reverse of the extradition bill last year: If we can’t take you back to China, we’ll come and get you. Convenient!
Hong Kong is not an extralegal place like Batavia in the Age of Great Navigation.
I agree. I wonder when China will realize it benefits a great deal from diversity in culture and politics etc. Freedom is powerful when led well . . . there will be downswings like the US is having now, but, it should improve again. Express and share . . .
Beijing’s promise? I thought HK made the article 23 promise in 1984, while Macao passed the national security law by themselves and nothing happened, HKers even refuse to pass the law that honors Chinese national flag and national anthem.
China government will push the law whether you like it or not. nothing can stop Chinese people protect their own profit in HK. today is not 1840, China has enough power doing so.
Why can’t China impose security law? These countries had the law long time ago.
Eventually HK will be Tiamenen Square take 2. And the rest of the word will condemn with with words but virtually nothing in terms of action,
Western=world ?🤣
