A federal appeals court has ruled that a lawsuit accusing President Trump of violating the Constitution's emoluments clause — which bars the president from receiving gifts or favors from foreign governments — can proceed.

President Trump will not be able to shake off a lawsuit that accuses him of violating the Constitution by continuing to own his businesses while serving as president, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday.

"[I]n the United States, every person — even the President — has a duty to obey the law," wrote Motz. The District of Columbia and Maryland say planners of major events are booking gatherings at Trump's hotel over their own taxpayer-owned facilities, making them lose profits because, they allege, doing business at Trump's hotel is now seen as a way to curry favor with the president.

Do you think the Republican Party will let this go through?

collabchem Throw it into the pile

Other choice is banana republic!

I’m sure he will continue to appeal the rulings until it makes it to the 5-4 SCOTUS.

The Democratic Party is pathetic

Until his stacked political SCOTUS gives him a pass.

JasonLemon Well at lest Trump is not a slave owner like George Washington. I am guessing Trump would be if he could overturn the 13 amendment.

Trump’s a crook

Oh, so they finally woke up from their sleepy eyed slumber?.

so this is why he's tweeting about Obama again. Got it.

Amazing the hypocrisy Democrats have shown as they've enjoyed hyper-partisan political judges for so long, as is this case with Diana Gribbon Motz. Republicans are just now getting some semblance of sensible constitutional balance in the judiciary; this ruling will be reversed.

3 1/2 years into a 4 year term. Will probably take at least a year to go through the courts. Seems like they would've done this day one if it were going to hurt him.

He first went under lease with the old Post Office building in 2013 Well before announcing his presidency Must have been part of his Russian collusion to take over the DC hotel market But, he does charge other govts a bit much but these days, the Hotel business is doomed so?

Guilty!

Ah, an impartial judge! How refreshing. Emoluments

Hi , would you please include links to the court opinion when your articles summarize one? You've apparently read them, so you have them.

Yes! Donald Trump is not above the law. Americans must elect JoeBiden to be President this November 3 in order to save our country. Come January 20, 2021, Trump should be indicted for many other crimes he has committed. BarbMcQuade JoyceWhiteVance msnbc BWilliams NBCNews

If someone violated the constitution then why are this people walking free?

Crap news by crap people. Stop dividing the people.

Oh no! What if we discover that he has been breaking the law all along?

Yep, I’m sure he’s quivering, for the 500th time since he’s been president.

lol🤣🤣🤣

Trump will take this to SCOTUS where his plants await his orders.

And to the SCOTUS it goes, along with everything else. Another year from now before they rule on it.

Tick ... tick ... tick ...

Appeals court lets emoluments lawsuit against Trump proceedAn appeals court has rejected President Trump's attempt to stop an emoluments lawsuit challenging his ownership of a Washington, DC, hotel, keeping the case alive in trial court and reopening the possibility state officials can access his business record. Hopefully justice will prevail they need to keep pushing and pushing against this corrupt president he tries to keep from being held accountable for his actions and like always he just keeps litigating and suing until he gets his way hope somebody will stop in once and for all It would be interesting if tRump owned the Washington location as more than likely all the other hotels are under management contracts or licencing agreements. Ownership would be unusual and possibly preferential tRumps waking thought...”What, who me? I might be a lying con man but u ain’t making me out to be no “amoluent”. Supreme Court hears arguments over whether Trump can keep tax records shielded from CongressAttorneys for President Donald Trump faced questions from the justices of the Supreme Court on Tuesday over whether allowing Trump to keep his tax records shielded from House Democrats would unconstitutionally limit the power of Congress to conduct investigations.
