The parties are challenging aspects of the Disaster Management Act, bringing the government’s entire lockdown under legal scrutiny

The DA and the Freedom Front Plus are approaching the courts to challenge the constitutionality of aspects of the Disaster Management Act, under which the National Coronavirus Command Council functions, bringing the entire lockdown under legal scrutiny.

The party has already instructed its lawyers to challenge the alleged discriminatory use of the Covid-19 emergency relief fund and has petitioned the International Monetary Fund to make any funds obtained from them by the SA government conditional on their non-racial use, or any other arbitrary criteria.the government’s ban on e-commerce and its limitation on outside exercise.

“The state of disaster we are currently under, governed by the Disaster Management Act, has zero provision for parliamentary oversight. Which means this secretive NCC answers to no-one. Not even a state of emergency, which is a further step up from a state of disaster, has such sweeping powers with no parliamentary oversight,” said Steenhuisen.

He said in a statement that if the court reaches this decision, it would mean the announced state of disaster and the associated regulations are unconstitutional.

Yah i was expecting to see EEF going crazy during 21days but hey CIC appeared on all channels of the media saying he fully support what the president has said i was so disappointed

Why it took them so long? The answer is simple, their main intention is not to question the constitutionality of the NCC but true intention behind this is to prevent the western cape from remaining at level 4 when others moves to lvl 3

DA, FF+ head to court to challenge lockdownGovernment is coming under fire from opposition parties for its lockdown regulations. Why thou? Whilst I agree that the economy should be protected people in the western cape are not adhering to any lock down laws, they are not even practicing social distancing. They are doing more tests but they are also the most disobedient province. Poor leadership! The RLF is calling upon the government to keep our Security Forces on our Streets until the next National General Election to deal with gangsters, criminal syndicates, murder, home & business robberies. Yes. Well done. For once DA and FF plus are headed in the right direction. Let's hope sanity will prevail.

DA files court papers to challenge regulations on exercise, e-commerce and 8pm curfewJohn Steenhuisen says the DA will file papers at the High Court to challenge the rationality of certain restrictions put in place by the government to help decrease the spread of the coronavirus. Cue public 'servant' parasites who don't realize where their salaries come from (the private sector) to start hysterically screaming about 'matric.' Those same ANC types who voted for a criminal, primitive, polygamist who never attended school. Thank you. Just to end lockdown just like that
