A trainee solicitor jailed last year for raping a student and trying to attack a second woman has had his sentence increased.

But he will now serve 16 years with a five-year extended licence period after the Court of Appeal deemed the original sentence to have been ‘unduly lenient’. She said: ‘In my eyes, the original sentence was in no way severe enough and was in fact, utterly disproportionate to the horrendous crimes that had been committed.‘We are all relieved that justice finally prevails and feel the extended sentence of 21 years, with a custodial element of 16 years, is just and fair.

‘It does however bring some degree of closure for her and us as a family, and with that, hope for a positive and happy future.’Marodza, from Eastbourne in East Sussex, had been out drinking with friends after work on July 19 last year and had been harassing a number of women in the bar.Marodza grabbed her by the neck and dragged her to a secluded park where he threatened to kill her before forcing her to strip and repeatedly raping her.
