The Supreme Court is hearing cases involving subpoenas for Donald Trump's financial records — and questions about the limits of presidential, congressional and judicial power. Listen live now 👇

They say they are seeking the information in the Trump records to inform the need for new international money laundering restrictions, and for other purposes; for instance, to determine whether the ethics laws should be tightened to prevent a president with huge business interests from using his office unethically, or whether future presidents should be required to disclose their tax returns, something that Trump's lawyers maintain would be itself unconstitutional.

"It's basically a black box," Enrich observes."And Deutsche Bank is one of the few institutions in the world that has the keys to unlock it." Columbia law professor Dan Richman summarizes the Manhattan district attorney's argument this way:"In fact, the ability to pursue this case, even were we to wait, would be substantially impeded. Memories deteriorate, evidence disappears, so unless we're going to declare that once a person is president, they're above the law for anything that happened before they were president, we need to pursue a case involving others, and in time, once he steps down, possibly against him.

could force similar compliance in a criminal investigation. So, expect Trump's lawyers to stress that unresolved point Tuesday. Sekulow replies that no matter how small or large a president's offenses, the only remedy Congress has is impeachment. And, in this case, the Senate failed to convict Trump on impeachment charges.

Trump's lawyer Sekulow, however, counters that Congress is on a fishing expedition to discredit the president and has no intention of legislating. The newest justice, Trump nominee Brett Kavanaugh, has both criticized and praised the Supreme Court's Nixon tapes decision. Indeed, prior to his nomination to the court, he wrote asuggesting that Congress should pass a law making the president entirely immune from investigation during his tenure.

This decision will reveal the politicization of the Court

So Justices who upheld subpoena in Clinton v Jones -like Thomas- will find a tortured way to deny it now

Is Roberts showing his true colors bringing up Pandemic and Christmas and noting that this is criminal versus civil. Seems to me criminal would be more compelling

Setting a standard here for all future presidents

If a President has been guilty of a crime the public has a right to know

Of course it’s a burden but less for an innocent man

No one is above the law

So why is trump getting away with this? In my eyes the law is the law and the first law is nobody is above the law, the house is responsible for monitoring the economy and hold the power of the purse, they have the right to look at anyone's taxes because its their job.

And in the nick of time to avoid any conflicts of interest. Day 1280 of 1460. Shhhh! Listen. You can hear the barn door slide shut.

Let’s get rid of Obama & his Swamp creatures. I could care less about Trump’s Financial reports & statements. Drain the Swamp Barr & Durham. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Kavanaugh is a pathetic representaion of the bench

Donald J. Trump is definitely incompetent for being American President. His inadequacy of leadership is obvious. He just know the things about money and know nothing on lives or respects. The worst is he is ruining American Spirit. The American people deserve better.

I remember when Trump promised to release taxes when he was running for POTUS.

The republicans on the court know trump is corrupt and know he’s hiding his taxes because of corrupt reasons lol

do u want to play with me
