In a statement Tuesday , state Pakatan secretariat chief V. Sivakumar said Mohammad Zahir was unlawfully elected and they would take the matter to court.
Sivakumar said the state Speaker needs to be elected according to the state Constitution and Standing Orders. "When the position becomes vacant, a notice must then be issued at least seven days to all 59 state assemblymen to nominate a candidate. There should also be agreement from the candidate. "The biased selection by Perikatan Nasional after Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham had adjourned the sitting is also unlawful," he said."Pakatan will challenge the decision in court to defend the sanctity of the Constitution and the parliamentary democratic system of the state," he added.
Mohammad Zahir, who is Kamunting assemblyman, was elected as the new state Speaker while Kubu Gajah assemblyman Khalil Yahaya was picked as his deputy during the state assembly sitting Tuesday.
