South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem says checkpoints two Native American tribes have put in place are illegal. Tribal leaders say they're trying to control the spread of the coronavirus and keep their community safe. Here's what you need to know.

The lawmakers said in a letter dated Saturday that they did"not wish to be party of another lawsuit that will ultimately cost the people of South Dakota more money. "We wish to work with all parties involved for a reasonable, legal, and appropriate solution that addresses the concerns of all sovereigns involved.

For those coming from a hot spot, they can only go to the reservation for essential activities -- and can only do so after obtaining a travel permit, available on the tribe's website. How did the governor respond? In response to the checkpoints that were set up in early April, the governor published a statement Friday to the tribes giving them 48 hours to remove them. Otherwise, Noem warned in her Friday letter,"the State will take necessary legal action.

Good 👍 they have to look out for them self. Nobody wants to do anything unless its for their own interest.

Racism takes many firms....

The people are taking back their states from idiot Democratic Governors. Glorious..

Sounds like the tribal restrictions are doing a better job to protect their residents than the state is.

I didn't think a Governor had any say over federal land.

That shou,d be allowed what is trying to do spread it more?

She needs leave the Native Americans alone. Go play kissyface with her tRump/ russia cult supporters. Let the tribes try to protect their own, with no f×cking help from the state or government.

Who are you going to trust? Native Americans--who were systematically oppressed, murdered and exploited--or the racist American government? This isn't a hard call.

Say something about ObamaGate

Why shouldn’t they be allowed to protect themselves? The governor needs to be checked! The reservations are suppose to belong to the tribes that occupy those lands!

What you need to know is that minorites make up about 10% of South Dakota's population but around 70% of its covid cases so maybe KristiNoem should be taking care of workers instead of trying to do a racism against the natives.

Hi 'CNN!' The 'USA!' Is Burying Up To Two Thousand Folke's a Day In The Pandemic & This Politician Is Worried About Folke's Protecting Their Family's! Where's Her Heade! 'AmigoDon!'

You can’t blame them for trying to keep the virus off of their land. All you have to do is look at what happened to the Navajo.

The Governor is Wrong! They want another standoff America stands with the Native Americans

Just say it's a sobriety check point.

So could they close any off ramp and on ramp and then legally arrest anyone found violating such order?
