The movement of thousands of people between the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape during the Covid-19 outbreak has strained relations between the provinces, and the ANC in the Eastern Cape is threatening to take the DA-run Western Cape government to court

A war of words has erupted between party leaders from the neighbouring provinces, resulting in the global pandemic being reduced to a political squabble.

Ngcukayithobi said they were convinced that the Western Cape government and Ceres farmers were deliberately sabotaging all efforts to halt the spread of the virus in the Eastern Cape. “We are gravely concerned about the immoral and reckless conduct of farmers in the Western Cape, who continue to exploit the seasonal workers and, after making their profits, release those workers to fend for themselves without caring about their welfare, their state of health or where they will stay.

“The people who are selling fake permits are in the Western Cape and we know that the Western Cape government is aware of this. It took police from the Eastern Cape to go beyond our borders to arrest those individuals who were selling fake permits to people to travel to the Eastern Cape,” Ngcukayithobi added.

He said the impression that people were only travelling from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape was incorrect as there were also people commuting in the opposing direction. He denied the claim that people were being issued with fake permits in the Western Cape, saying individuals were obtaining legitimate permits under false pretences.

“The only conclusion that I can come to is that it is politically motivated, which is stupid,” Madikizela said.

Pass laws here we come

My concern as well, most people who are in the WC are from the EC by not enforcing lockdown rules strictly l'm afraid EC people might transfer the Virus to the EC unknowingly

That will be a waste of money and time. Talk nje like normal people. There is nothing normal about politician but zamani.

Why cant these two provinces collaborate ? Talk about wasting a crisis for doing the right thing. Tnis is the time to deploy testing & sharing of resources.

Stupid ANC.Playing dirty this not a unitary , constitutional state.🤔failed to create jobs in E.Cape because of corruption. They will loose in court.Stupid!!

Also in the history of pandemics and disease since when is quarantining the healthy a option? It should be the sick who gets quarantined

Deflecting the real issue, which is the incompetence of local Eastern Cape government and it’s broken health department. Even DrZweliMkhize reprimanded them! COVID19SA

What did we suspect after 7 days of inter provincial travel?

Helen Zille will send all EC born back home ndamaz la sisi izwi lakhe aliwi phantsi

So is dat solution ...hai ere ke fete

People run away from epicentre in SA.

Once again ANC incompetence trying to shift blame to DA and white people (farmers nogal)🙄🙄 Grow the f up - THEY PASSED ROADBLOCKS IN THE EASTERN CAPE - EC must do their job and arrest them!! Government should have banned travel for funerals.

The Eastern Cape is a problem child in South Africa; These are the people who couldn't even stop themselves from looting millions meant for Mandela state funerals!
