Why George Pell likely won't face charges over royal commission findings

After a two-year wait, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse has released its findings on what Cardinal George Pell knew about clergy abuse.Mandatory reporting laws didn't come into effect in Victoria until 2014It found Cardinal Pell was aware of general allegations that children were being abused in the Ballarat diocese from 1973.

It also found that he was told that paedophile priest Gerard Ridsdale was being moved because of his alleged sexual abuse of children at a meeting in 1982. The royal commission found that later on, as he rose through the ranks in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, Cardinal Pell should have advocated for the removal of paedophile priest Peter Searson when he received a list of allegations of bizarre behaviour by him in 1989.In a statement released on Thursday, Cardinal Pell said that he was surprised at some of the findings and that they were not supported by the evidence.

Before 1981, Victoria had "misprison of felony" legislation, which made it a crime not to report a serious offence to the police. That meant anyone who concealed information about a crime that occurred before 1981 could theoretically be charged by police, but there would be almost insurmountable hurdles to pass in practice, Mr Tapsell said.If you or anyone you know needs help:

The High Court has already established what it will/can do with such cases. Quash it.

Ducking untouchables! Skipped off to NSW so would have to set up extradition to Vic. Catholic mafia strikes again! Will celebrate the day he dies

As ugly as it is, not pursuing charges is probably the best option. Taking him to court and not securing a conviction will only give his supporters more fuel for their 'innocent all along' 'witch hunt' story.

Because findings are based on opinions and not evidence... again....7-0.....🤷‍♂️

How disappointing that Justice will not win out. Pell is without compassion or conscience.. i could go on.

FORGET THIS CRAP, CHANNEL (2) TWO ARE LIKE THE LABOR PARTY, FLOGGING A DEAD HORSE, NO ONES INTERESTED

Here’s the pivotal sentence: “In its final report, the royal commission didn't make any finding that Cardinal Pell knew of any specific offences taking place.” In fact, in some instances, it leapt to conclusions based on supposition & hunches, rather than evidence, aka “the vibe”

How old was Pell at the time (early 1970’s)? What early mid twenties in age and straight out of the monastery..? Why can’t the ABC give a truthful fact based report.. they are taxpayer funded and exist soley to do this

SallyRMelb Of course not...

We all know why. He's protected by the powerful and influential. As we saw

Because conservatives will always protect the church. Stupid people all around.

But we all know now.

When the true face of evil is revealed - believe it.

Westminster system, relies on its tax exempt religious quadrant, to forgive fallible human nature. Tax payments as a rule, historied, never materialized, after expenses and charitable work, left nothing taxable. Empire building, asset base expansion. Exemptions. JustinianNews

His reputation is in tatters, his legacy stinks, he did a little jail time and he is convicted paedophile who was released on a technicality. Condemned to being despised forever.

Not prosecuting because there's been no previous success is negligent It greenlights paedophile protectors Commissioner Hayne (BankRC) scolded ASIC for being lame 'Why not litigate' He found there was community value regardless of outcome and community expectations demanded it

A bullshit enquiry which was selective of religious beliefs ,no check up on Mosques that preform child marriages insist on female genitalia mutilation etc. The ABC hounded Pell and when the facts were tested 7-0 for exoneration suck it up ABC you lost!

Corruption.

An absolute disgrace...... Another reason to leave the church......

He was also always going to get away with it, never forget the power of that church, they new in the beginning when you ask any person to not marry that they need to satisfy their sexual desires in some way,so they ignored it.That virus has been around a long time

He'll have his day.

Sickening

Let’s get this guy out of the headlines. Australia knows what he did and he will never recognise the pain his inaction caused. Slip back to the darkness ‘man of god’

The amount of times Pell uses the word evidence evidence evidence evidence evidence when interviewed, its so obvious he's always known raping children is the perfect crime. He's thought it through with a legal mind set, and his law team reassured him

pellgotohell

Maybe he might be made GG before the LibNats leave office

2/ Enquiry into Victorian Jury system and fact that state does not allow trial by panel of judges if unbias jury cannot be found, enquiry into Victorian Police, Enquiry into ABC reporting and even an enquiry into this royal commission. Why has justice failed so badly?

1/ When seven of the nations top judges ruled Pell innocent on all charges that he was imprisoned for because the evidence does not exist there needs to be a big enquiry into everything.

What, you mean just like Paul Bongiorno won't be charged either, even though he actually lived with Risdale, unlike Cardinal Pell? TheirABC WitchHunt

He needs a stoning

This is yet another Pell witch hunt by the Victorian police. They don’t need to read the report. If the Commissioner thought there was a crime he would have referred the matter to the DPP.

Rats protecting other rats. There is nothing “holy” about the Catholic Church or for that matter Hillsong both protected paedophiles. This is a complete failure of our law enforcement.

Because any royal commission evidence is given under compulsion and of course cannot be used against those who give evidence. Hey here's a fun game, call an RC into tax dodging corporate giants. WE will never prosecute them but find out their parasitic ways

Parents keep an eye closely to your kids, Pell is around.
