The lawyers, under the aegis of Open Bar Initiative, in a petition to Mr Buhari said 17 of the NJC’s nominees were not just “unqualified”, but that they were able to make the NJC’s list because of their “connection” or “family affiliation” with top officials of the nation’s judiciary.
The group said in a press statement that it has forwarded the petition to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila. There is one that is outstandingly interesting. Olufola Olufolashade, according to the petition, was not even among the shortlisted candidates. The name was said to have been “smuggled” into the list by an unnamed top Supreme Court justice.
The Open Bar Initiative said in its press statement, “The suggestion that judicial service in Nigeria is an inheritance transmitted from parents to children is not supported by the Constitution or any other instrument under the Nigerian laws.”
They are Nigerians with equal rights.....haba!
This is part of the reason why there is a lack of respect for these Nigerian judges and judiciary system.
The same NJC which allowed the illegal removal of the former CJN. A case of scratch my back I scratch going on, perhaps.
Lol
Is the relative qualified the relative must also pass required screening & subjected to qualifying process Once this is done noting is wrong in d appointment
This is very sad. If those who ordinarily should be willing to lay down their lifes in defence of justice and rule of law now go so low in recommending relatives as judges, what can we say other than it is finished !!! The country is gone, only the strongest survives.
Corruption everywhere and someone will sit somewhere and make noise of fighting corruption, corruption kii you there
Are the “relatives and others” Congolese?
