Union Solidarity is appealing against a high court ruling allowing the tourism department to use BEE as a consideration when handing out state relief funding

The government needs to support all enterprises in its Covid-19 relief funding, regardless of the race, finance minister Tito Mboweni said on Tuesday.I think that we need to support all enterprises, black and white, as long as they are able to remain viable to support our people, create jobs, Mboweni told parliament’s two finance committees regarding the Treasury's strategic and annual performance plans.

Mboweni told him he was sure he was wrong and that he had misunderstood the position but would discuss the issue of the tourism relief fund with minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane. “There is no doubt, in my view, that the opening of the economy is urgent but this urgency must be tempered by the need to protect the lives of our people. We need to have a balance — it is not an either-or situation.”

Mboweni said that he was no longer interested in funding dysfunctional state-owned enterprises, though he fully supported functional ones such asHe was in favour of arms manufacturer Denel getting help but it needed to get its business case operating properly, he said. The company supplied both the domestic and international markets and had the capacity to assist in the transformation of the military-industrial complex.

An interesting read Repost of a FB comment, off another concerned citizen's timeline: The irony of this country. These four men together gave the South African government over R 4.6 billion in donations to help businesses with the Covid-19 pandemic. Pretty generous, right.

Its the right thing to do. We so over this legacy if apartheid. I lived through it. Endured it. I decided to move on. I dont neef any reminders. It was shit!

Talk is cheap. Open up the real estate business. Tenants and buyers are stuck . Estate agency affairs board offering no financial support to agents who work on commission only. Agency admin jobs at risk

A man with common sense and blls, salute.

The use of B-BBEE as criteria for covid 19 relieve fund was lapse in decision making and very illogical. The people employed in white- owned companies are both blacks and whites and discrimination in this situation isn't gonna work. We are all affected irrespective of the colour.

A fam business has just folded . No Govt support . !!! Reason ? White skins and after being in business for a short time they haven't become BEE compliant . Due to deafness in fam they give employment to 12 YES 12 black and hearing impaired people who are now on the street !!!

What a man 👌I really don't know why is tito_mboweni still in that corrupt ANC party .he is just way too forward and honest .and in the ANC they're against him for being honest .but again we need him there to keep us safe

In a perfect world. Business and government going to have a enormous task to save the economy and this is going to make waves in the workplace about saving jobs. It just a pity this country can't move forward.

I don’t why a state minister has to say this in a democratic South Africa. The current state of things requires all hands on deck, using race as a criteria for business rescue is a recipe for disaster. You must remember white businesses have black employees too.

Tito 'Good boy' Mboweni.......

Oh look, another govt policy flip flop.

Tito didnt get the memo. The CCP directs the ANC just like the Guptas directed Zuma. The ANC dont know how to trade or do business. They dont know about customer relationship or technology. They not leaders. They only know to copy nd paste wat other countries do😉

Tito in the cabinet gives me hope..

3DMapLady Tito for president.

I dont think if he mean it. Coz l have heard him saying the spazashops must be owned by South Africans
