HANOI: A Vietnamese student was sentenced to one year's probation on Tuesday (Apr 28) for beating a security guard at a building after being asked to put on his face mask, the court said.

A representative of the local criminal investigation agency on Tuesday announcing the decision to prosecute Bui Anh Huan on charges of attacking the on-duty official during the March 30 incident in Ho Chih Minh city. - VN/ANN

Bui Anh Huan, 23, was charged with"resisting a law enforcement officer who was performing his official duties," according to the verdict by the District 7 court in Ho Chi Minh City reported by Ho Chi Minh police-run newspaperAccording to the indictment, the incident occurred in the early morning of March 30, when Huan was running in the Phu My residential area in District 7 without wearing a face mask.

The court said that when the whole of society was actively implementing the government's policies for the prevention and control of Covid-19, Huan's behaviour broke the rules and needed to be strictly punished for deterrence and education.
