The Supreme Court's conservative justices forced thousands in Wisconsin to choose between their right to vote and risking their health. And as November inches closer, the court may be the ultimate arbiter of what accommodations to voting are allowed.

The U.S. Supreme Court is no stranger to controversy, but it still gets higher marks in public opinion polls than the other branches of government. Now though, for the first time in memory, the court is not just split along ideological lines, but along political lines as well: All the conservatives are Republican appointees, all the liberals Democratic appointees.

The TV footage of people wearing masks waiting for hours to vote at the very few precincts that were open amid the pandemic was, to say the least, not a good look. Health officials in Milwaukee have since identified six voters and one poll worker who appear to have contracted the virus during the election. The majority opinion was unsigned, so no one knows who the principal author was. But we do know some things.

In fact, the word"pandemic" appears not once in the court's unsigned opinion. Rather, the majority sought to portray the issue before the court as a"narrow, technical question." The majority said the lower court had overstepped the Supreme Court's established rule that courts should"ordinarilyThe dissenters replied that the court's treatment of the current situation as ordinary"boggles the mind.

Chief Justice Roberts has, on some occasions tried to bridge the two wings of the court, in a couple of big cases siding with the court's liberals, or sometimes trying to fashion a compromise. But as Hasen observes,"there really is not any case I can think of involving elections where Roberts has forged a larger consensus."

Absolutely HILARIOUS!! 😂🤣😆

(not so) studies from California & Germany- now Gov Como’s antibody study of 2000 individuals in NY reveal the death rate from COVID19 is not the 2% as thought but less than 0.5% - very contagious (high numbers) yet not as deadly % wise as first believed

No mail in ballots as the Democrats will cheat they are the party of cheaters

Murderers voted to make them stand in line cold, wet, and in a pandemic.

Simple they’ll support any and all accommodations that support GOP candidates.

My guess is the conservative majority will accommodate the Trump administration.

Very unfair.

Gerrymandering in the time of trogs.

It’s apparent that today’s conservatives don’t care about the health and safety of voters. They’re just interested in keeping power, not promoting democracy.

DefundNPR. Evil Incarnate. MAGA

BULLSHIT. Thank you SCOTUS! If we can safely go to the grocery store, then we can safely vote. The Democrat Party is heavily invested in voter fraud and cannot win without it.

Spoiler alert, there will be zero accommodations

Did any of the WI voters get ill?

Here’s a thought. Because this country is in such turmoil and dire straights, perhaps President Trump should invoke executive authority and cancel the 2020 elections altogether. Concentrate on getting this great country onto its feet and back to prosperity. Oh, I hear the sh*t!!

Don't let the Dems off the hook, they didn't suspend their primary either.

Just look at Wisconsin Covin numbers this week. Big increase 16 days from voting. How long until GOP is in court as someone dies?

Body bags should be blamed on them.

They learned a hard lesson, that people are fed up with Rethuglikkkan nonsense and want them out of office.

My 84 year old mother in law voted in person in WI. She said the safe guards taken were extraordinary, and she felt VERY comfortable voting. Stop the scare tactics. We're onto you!

let’s stop pretending we have a fair and functioning government. we don’t.

Sharpening guillotine

Exaggerated fear is common among the grifter News agencies like NPR that received COVID money.

You have the right to vote. You should vote. You can vote in person, should show an ID to prove you are who you are, but a few minutes of voting isn’t endangering your life. If you want an absentee ballot you can get one now. Ballot by mail enmasse is just another way to cheat

Roberts and his conservative court infected Wisconsin citizens while SCOTUS locked themselves in their homes and went all remote access. Roberts is a Republican partisan hack and Republicans are killing Americans. It really is that simple. GOPCorruptionOverCountry

The naivete and lack of self awareness during your fund drives where you continue to insist *you are objective and present all sides*...is value for money. But only the money I'm forced to give you as a taxpayer.

Oh please the people were in no more risk than going to the grocery store. You’re in on the fraud riddled changes so you can continue to help Dems cheat

The Wisconsin dem party could have postponed it...

The Supreme Court has been dismantling democracy protections for a decade now.

Yes! TheDemocrats must keep an eye on this! COVIDIOT tRUMP and GOP have made it clear that this will come up again. RBG’s dissenting written opinion was spot on! Great video clip👇 COVID19 VoteBlue2020

There is nothing Supreme about these idiots.

It's a travesty that our confiscated wages are being used to support your TDS.

trump is a con-artist and charlatan, aka a person falsely claiming to have a special knowledge or skill; a fraud. Who would the Supreme Court judges rule is a charlatan - Dr. Anthony Fauci or trump?

If we don’t either turn the senate or get Dotard out, our courts will be useless to all but the moneyed. He is not a friend of the people but of corporations.

SCOTUSkills

npr where boomer liberals come to cry

Would. E interesting if anyone got sick after having to vote in person.

I think the ruling was narrower than that.

Should work out good for the people. It’s a very nice group in the majority. Always looking out for the people, especially women./s

Scarey thought

Please report both sides 'Public Radio' half the country has a very different point of view.

Conservatives have blood on their hands

If you can stand in line to buy toilet paper, pretty sure standing in line to vote is also manageable.

Republicans hate democracy. There's no other explanation.
