Led Zeppelin didn’t steal the opening bars of “Stairway to Heaven," a federal appeals court ruled in a decision that music executives hope will slow claims that some of the most popular songs are rip-offs.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on Monday put to rest a closely watched case that began in 2016 when a Los Angeles federal jury decided the British rock group didn’t steal parts of the 1971 hit from an obscure single, “Taurus,” by the band Spirit. The Ninth Circuit overturned that ruling in 2018,...

But they did. You only have to have ears to know.

Just more of the same from Judge Vanilla Ice.

That’s great! I’m just about to launch my new cartoon Mikey Mouse

I’m a Zep fan but songs seem very similar to me. Good lawyers.

Los amo !!!!!

Dear Prudence, There are two bands are fighting over you!

Fuck Yes they did

It’s literally just a basic chord progression whyd they wait 40 years to accuse them in court when that songs been huge that whole time

Fucking finally

These guys obviously ripped off many old blues singers’ songs and did a FABULOUS job but gave no credit to the source. That’s a problem. Still love LZ even though they’ve been naughty.

Who cares? Religious claptrap lyrics anyway. They should just ban the song along with the Bible. When they do a song about trans rights I’ll have some respect for Led Zepplin.

Taurus sounds more like The Masterplan by Oasis 😂

RIP Randy California btw.

Going to use this opportunity to promote the episode of one of my favourite podcasts, How Music Does That, that covers this exact issue.

Denied

I guess no one on the appeals court has ears then, must be hard to live that way.

They still did it, they just had better lawyers.

It's Bach.

The notes are not the same. Hell, if you're talking rip-off, there is a certain popular British Band that broke onto the scene in the 90s, that so obvious and blatantly ripped off the Beatles, Rolling Stones and the Kinks on a continual and regular basis.

ledzeppelin is greatest band of all time. Other bands just pumped out so many records they had to attract fans that liked at least some of their music but I think Zeppelin fans like all their stuff.

Glad the courts have nothing else better to do.

Randy California publicly stated that the resemblance is not a mere coincidence (he said 'exactly the same') and he wasn't interested in suing the Brits. It is obvious Page intentionally adapted the intro from California's instrumental song to show homage.

Fuck yeah!!

The simplest, 10% part of the song has a similar structure of another song and these great musicians have to drag themselves into court over it. What a shitty system that allows such rubbish and shame to anyone dull enough to entertain it.

Great news! Zep fans will want to check this out! 🎸🎵🎤

Now it's time for a reunion tour!🎸🎵

Congratulations guy's.

Say what now!

It just sounded exactly the same. Pure coincidence.

People are always on the lookout for a payday.

They did though

that’s great! .. and it didnt take too long, at all 😂😂😂

Great decision and about time!

Well... that’s settled now
