A man has been jailed for 21 months for coercively controlling and harassing a woman he was in a “toxic relationship” with by making more than 5,700 phonecalls to her in a four month period.

After the first successful prosecution of the offence of coercive control in the State since the law was introduced in January 2019, Judge John Aylmer sentenced Dunleavy to a total of 2½ years but suspended the final nine months. In her victim impact statement, Ms Crossan said the first four years of the relationship were good and that Dunleavy was a good partner and father. However, he became possessive and he also began to cheat on her.

Imagine the cost to the state for free legal aid for that man. He's beyond rehabilitation but we'll keep supporting them with legal defense if he has another 150 convictions. Pure scam that free legal aid.

We really need a 3 strike law

121 previous convictions, threats of murder, GBH & all he gets is 30 months with 9 suspended. Who holds the judiciary to account for these pathetic sentences? Why not give scumbags like this proper prison terms like in the USA, he's clearly a menace! 30 years seems about right.

121 previous convictions, 121!

What a catch!

Coward

Absolutely loving it, got the authorities wrapped around his finger
