High Court dismisses Petronas' application for stay in S'wak unpaid sales tax case

Judicial Commissioner Christopher Chin made the ruling in chambers on Tuesday after hearing the application last Wednesday .Petronas had applied for a stay of proceedings pending the outcome of its appeal against Chin's decision on Jan 23 not to recuse himself from hearing the lawsuit.

"For me to now stay would be tantamount to acknowledging my reasoning for refusing the recusal earlier was flawed. Chin also noted that Petronas had stressed they had nothing against him personally in seeking his recusal but were concerned about perceived bias arising from the fact that his future confirmation as a High Court Judge, as well as Petronas' affairs, were subject to the prerogative of the Prime Minister.
