The discharged jury, the accused solicitor and the $700,000 bag of cash | Kate_McClymont

Mr Croke has pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice, giving police false information and knowingly or recklessly helping a criminal group. The matter relates to a bag containing $700,000 in cash that was seized from a person staying in Sydney’s upmarket Hilton Hotel in August 2011. The Crown case is that Mr Croke assisted a criminal group in their attempts to convince the police that the money was from a legitimate source.

Last year a trial date of January 29, 2020 was set. In a pre-trial hearing late last year the District Court was told Mr Croke’s new barrister John Korn had been engaged to represent him in the six-week trial. The Crown opposed, telling the judge Hanson had to be returned to jail in the US by February 19 and a new process to bring him to Australia would have to be re-commenced.
