NSTnation “Serving public interest should always be paramount.

It was reported that those unrelated to the case were instructed to leave the court room upon the request of the Deputy Public Prosecutor . This was on grounds that “the charges that were to be read against the officer were sensitive and should not be reported by the media.”

Section 7 of the CPC provides: “The place in which any criminal Court is held for the purpose of inquiring into or trying any offence shall be deemed an open and public Court to which the public generally may have access.” Fareed said the Malaysian Bar recognises that this discretion exists in the interest of justice, public safety, and national security, or for the protection of vulnerable classes of persons, or sensitive information.
