Chief Justice John Roberts said he has no intention of intervening in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump by casting a tie-breaking vote

Speculation had mounted during the trial whether Roberts would act, as Democrats hoped the chief could help them force the Republican majority to allow witnesses to be called. A chief justice had previously settled Senate ties in an impeachment trial -- back in 1868 -- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, noted. But when asked directly about whether he would get involved, Roberts said he would not.

The Supreme Court doesn't allow cameras or TV coverage of arguments, so while Roberts oversees the federal judiciary, most Americans had likely not seen or heard him doing so.In public speeches, Roberts routinely declares that judges are not like politicians and that their rulings arise from facts and the law."When you live in a politically polarized environment," he said in a New York appearance last year."People tend to see everything in those terms.

It would be highly inappropriate Justice Robert's to vote on a matter in the Senate. Further, Senate rules are very clear that if a tie occurs the Vice President would break the tie.

Shame where is the justice and a fair trial

coward

Nor should he, why is this a story? Oh, I know, to stir up the dopes on the left who don’t understand how any of this works.

Good

He must be very proud running a court without witness. Strange that he didn’t interven, must be a GOP judge paid by Trump. He will soon have a medal in the WH

Another judge bought and paid for.

And how much of our hard earned taxes paid him to be there and do nothing?

Forgive me for asking a few questions, but 1., where was the tiebreaking vote need and 2. If the Democrats are so worried about the alleged loss of their oversight and responsibilities, why are they cool with suddenly handing out over to him? Dumb article.

He goes home and laughs at the stupidity of democrats. This man has much more important work to do than be subjected to hours of liberal whining and posturing for the cameras.

Well he let Schiff lie all week, pretty worthless

He didn’t want to show his true republican self. the most obvious fixed trial I’ve seen since the trials of Rodney King ‘92, the questionable OJ trial. This one is so blatant and throughly transparency of this rigged, sell out, unconstitutional, republican fraud trial. A shame!

Crying liberals

Gutless, history is already written as disgraceful period in America.

When it becomes clear he won’t have to do anything, he makes it clear he will do nothing

Why kissing up to keep your CAPO happy like a good mobster doing your part

Coward!

Aw geez. And me with my hopes all high for the heroes of Scotus to come to the rescue 😒

COWARD

Just another Coward👊💪😡
