The UN’s highest court has ­ordered Myanmar to “take all measures within its power” to prevent acts of genocide against its Rohingya population, and to preserve all evidence relevant to allegations that it committed genocide against the minority Muslims.

The momentous ruling handed down in The Hague late on Thursday by the International Court of Justice means the government of Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi faces a years-long legal battle to defend itself against charges of genocide.
