WASHINGTON—Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the chamber can’t hold a trial of President Trump if the House doesn’t send over articles of impeachment.
The idea that the Senate could hold a trial—or even dismiss impeachment charges—absent the House sending the articles has gained traction in conservative circles as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has delayed sending over the articles approved in December by the House, leaving the timing of a trial up in the air.
So the question for Mr. Schumer is why did he not urge his party controlling the House to include the witnesses that he is now clamoring to hear from? 🙄
That’s fine - hold it until after the election-security if he gets re-elected. It only takes a few seats to flip the Senate. Then we will have a real trial with witnesses and then remove him from office.
Actually the Senate could change its rules and accept the articles from the Congressional Record and invite the a House to participate
