the bill, but said it was slightly preferable to the proposal slated for the ballot, in part because it narrowed the circumstances under which consumers could sue companies, The Times’ Melanie Mason wrote.
A central component of the ballot measure is additional consumer control over what Mactaggart calls “sensitive personal information,” including data on a person’s race, health, Social Security number and recent locations using GPS technology. If enacted by voters, the law would grant consumers the right to prevent that kind of data from being sold and/or used for advertising purposes.
He is also proposing stricter rules regarding data collection from children, citing recent concerns about YouTube’s practices.A business is subject to the law if any one of the following is true:It buys, receives or sells the personal information of 50,000 or more consumers, households or devicesAs The Times’ Michael Hiltzik wrote, that includes a
KTG_ Sorry, but nothing will change, as every website will make it nigh on impossible to stop anyone opting out. We have had the EU GDPR for a while now, and you have to go through pages of unticking options on many sites. Others make you wait 30 seconds while the changes are saved.
I don’t see any opt out option on Facebook.
Realty ... Oh Daddy we all ready fuck constantly.
Just bought a new computer, I won’t be installing facebook or any of their sibs.
Scam !
We should own our personal information- NOT corporate interests- similar to what thr Eau does already
Two of the sites I use emailed their privacy policy links but did not provide opt-out for third party sharing of my info. The only option was to opt out of their mailings which would deny me special offers. That is not helpful.
Thank You.
Y’all if it’s out there it’s out there..... too damn late. 🔬⚗️🔭 Science! Ps. Cameras everywhere too. Privacy hahahahaha no.
You have to give a butt load of information to opt out and can only do so if you’re a California resident. Who knew chewy was selling my info?
Oh that's actually kinda neat
Nobody has thanked California for a new law since the late 80’s
Is California DMV still seling our info? GavinNewsom
Ever hear that famous expression about trying to shove the genie back in the bottle?
Bout time
Privacy laws? Oh lord! You give bank info online! You save personal information on iCloud! You have free space on google, Dropbox, YouTube, data warehouses. Privacy is out of the window. The dog chasing the cat. The cat cannot be caught. Give up...
Open your eyes as new tech like iotex_io can give us privacy AND great user experience-– change is coming!
This was something Andrew Yang talked about consistently throughout his presidential campaign and the first time I’m hearing it being implemented. Good job.
New privacy laws are definitely needed!!!! Thank you
😎
Finally.... California has come back to justice!!!!
Did a CA politician actually do something right?
Sadly you only need to be 13 to join twitter facebook nstagram with no verification of actual birthdate. Raise the age as they've done with smoking to 21. Social media is equally as dangerous. 13 yr olds are not reading privacy notices CyberSecurity cyberbullying bullying
Good to know that state's getting worse
X to doubt
The opt out options have always been there tho but it’s hidden and hard to find, why not make it an opt in button? Why should we waste our time hunting down all the sites selling our info and opting out on every single one
yasss I love living in cali thanks bae
Good! Hope the same laws start coming into effect in New York. No online entity needs any of my personal data. onlineprivacy
Huh. California FINALLY did something right.
I haven't seen any opt-out messages. After reading this article, I did go to the RalphsGrocery site and found a link hidden at the bottom of the page, where no one would ever look unless someone else told them to.
