Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has applied for a stay of proceedings of the suit filed by Damansara MP Tony Pua Kiam Wee for alleged misfeasance in public office related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad case.
“The defendant wants completion of the criminal case before starting on the civil suit because if they filed a defence in the suit it will prejudice the defence in the criminal case. It was attended by lawyer Nor Hazira Abu Haiyan representing Najib and senior federal counsel Ahmad Hanir Hambali on behalf of the Malaysian government.
Pua claimed that Najib was a public servant because he was the Pekan MP, the prime minister then and chairman of the 1MDB board of advisors, and in that capacity, he had both direct and indirect roles in the decisions and direction of 1MDB.
