NSTnation LTTE-linked case of scrap metal dealer transferred to High Court

Judge Maziah Joary Mohd Tajudin made the order after allowing the prosecution’s application to have the case transferred from the Sessions Court here to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.Earlier, Kalaimughilan, who was detained under Security Offences Act 2012 applied for bail, but the court rejected his bid.

His counsel Yoges M. Verasuntharam made the application on grounds that her client was not well and needed medical attention. However, Low said the Sessions Court does not have jurisdiction to decide on bail since the case would be tried at the High Court. On Oct 29, Kalaimughilan was charged at the Sessions Court here with possessing several items relating to the LTTE, such as compact discs and stickers.

He allegedly committed the offence at a house in Bukit Sentosa in Rawang between 9.30am and 12.35pm on Oct 10. The offence under Section 130JB of the Penal Code carries a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment, or a fine, upon conviction.
