Former lawyer Samantha Chong wants to know why there have been no updates with regards to a police report she filed six months ago over what she reported was a sexual assault on her.
In a series of tweets addressed to Inspector-General of Police Ahmad Hamid Bador and Attorney-General Tommy Thomas, Chong said she had mostly been ignored by the investigating officers."Is this how you treat a sexual assault survivor? And then pretend to be surprised why most victims remain silent?It has been 173 days since I launched a police report against the person who sexually assaulted me at Criminal Lawyer Annual Party on 22-6-19.
I had no choice but to leave practice, for fear of repercussion frm my very own fellow legal practitioners.Chong alleged that the suspect groped her twice during the Criminal Lawyers' Annual dinner event at a hotel in Petaling Jaya in June.However, she alleged that the man, whom she claimed was drunk, followed her and started to threaten as well as hurl profanities at her.
Following a police report over the matter, Petaling Jaya police arrested the alleged suspect and opened investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault with intent to outrage modesty as well as under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person.In her tweets, Chong said she had to quit as a lawyer for"fear of repercussions" from other lawyers."The suspect has now carried on with his life, happily.
"I’m tired of trying so hard to walk out from the shadow, while you kept me in the dark," she tweeted.
