Oxford University student 'raped young woman and then said 'this is really awkward''

AN Oxford University student raped a young woman then said: “Oh, no, this is really awkward”, a court heard yesterday.Oxford University medical student Niall McPaul allegedly raped a woman and said 'Oh, no, this is really awkward'Giving evidence from behind a screen, she told the jury she woke up to find McPaul on top of her.

She said she had been “eight or nine” out of ten in terms of being drunk — having had a bottle and a half of wine. She said: “He was saying something like, ‘Oh no. This is really awkward’.”She explained: “I was in an open relationship with my then boyfriend and we were not supposed to be involved with people in each other’s social circles.”The woman, who cannot be named, claimed: “I went to sleep saying, ‘I am not going to have sex with you’.

Initially, she did not identify him, but wrote: “I find it terrifying that he is going to be a doctor. He thinks it is okay to have sex with someone who is drunk/asleep, without a condom as well!” Eleanor Laws QC, defending, suggested the victim consented to kissing and sexual touching. McPaul, right, now 27, of Oxford, denies rape. Trial continues.GOT a story? RING The Sun
