Former High Court judge, Michael Kirby, has condemned the 'utter silence of university students on the big ethical questions facing their country' | michaelkoziol

Former High Court judge Michael Kirby has lashed the nation's students for their failure to adequately protest misdeeds by government and demand justice for Indigenous Australians.there was a "big contrast" between protest movements led by his contemporaries and the "utter silence of university students on the big ethical questions facing their country and its future today".

"Where are the students? Where are they speaking out? Where are they protesting? Where are they in the streets? Where are they able to voice concerns of the coming generation?" he asked. "They're not visible, they're not audible, and it is not good." At the event, Mr Kirby was particularly critical of the lack of protest about the repeal of the "medevac" laws, and asked why students were not marching to demand an Indigenous voice to Parliament.

School students rally against conservative inaction on climate change outside the Liberal Party Offices in William St on November 29.A group called Uni Students for Climate Justice has also organised a rally this Wednesday regarding the "unprecedented drought, bushfires and now a massive health crisis".

michaelkoziol Did he talk to students? Mine does a lot of volunteering + projects trying to figure out how to fix the world Student politics still a thing too Socrates 'children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders ...' windbag judge

michaelkoziol The current government doesn’t think so. They’d prefer them not to be radical at all and just sit quietly while the world burns around them!

bluedpn michaelkoziol In their defence... they pay for higher education themselves while the cost of living and energy is very high. Juggling fast-food-chain and meal delivery jobs, many of them can find it difficult to fit in all that rebellion.

michaelkoziol He’s spot on. Sadly uni students are not generally how they used to be. I was in a bar last night full of uni student aged freaks - botoxed-arsed, fake everything morons. I suspect they wouldn’t look up from their Insta accounts long enough to even know who won the last election

michaelkoziol A former high court judge talking about injustice.. that's a bit rich.. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

michaelkoziol He is right

michaelkoziol They are watching Netflix and playing Fortnite

michaelkoziol A person is the product of the events that they were exposed to as they grow up. If you are given everything then how will you know how to fight for anything?

michaelkoziol the Extinction Rebellion kids are but the Qld govt has drafted legislation that will jail them for two weeks minimum if they protest.

michaelkoziol At my University, the student code of conduct is such that if you do or say anything that brings the University into disrepute you are in breach and your enrolment may as a consequence be in jeopardy

michaelkoziol Reason. 1 Universities commercialised 2, Overrun by foreign students. 3. Protest not run on scientific or proven issues. 4. Manipulated by leftist minorities That's the reason.

michaelkoziol Universities today are full of foreign students and the rest grew up listening to their parents political views and their indifference to our politicians corruption. auspol

michaelkoziol brought up with a distinct lack of discipline and a truckload of entitlement = problem generation

michaelkoziol When you do voice concerns or show dissent your beaten, sprayed with pepper spray or arrested 🤔

michaelkoziol Good... Fudge me we want students to end up like the Americans...

michaelkoziol Sorry Kirbs, they’re too busy.

michaelkoziol Because they all have so much free time between study and juggling minimum wage jobs. The destruction of the student union by John Howard has had the desired effect of removing the protest framework.

peasley_mark michaelkoziol We’ve become a compliant, dangerously nonchalant nation. Rights are slowly being eroded and no one seems to give a stuff ... except when boomers’ windfall gain franking credits and temporary mining jobs are threatened.

michaelkoziol Its because 50% (give or take) of them don’t have a stake in local ethical issues. And half of that place nationalism above ethics.

FatherBob michaelkoziol The generational war thing is pointless: as a student in the eighties I had free tuition, cheap rent, plenty of casual jobs available for wages with penalty rates - these kids don’t - it’s comparing apples with oranges

FatherBob michaelkoziol Ok boomer

michaelkoziol They are too busy worrying about their studies now that they have to pay for them.

michaelkoziol Too busy re-writing group assessment contributions from non English speaking fellow students.

michaelkoziol

michaelkoziol We have bred snowflakes. Our universities have been white- anted, specifically by humanities depts and esp. teacher education.

michaelkoziol Must be nice to have a big pension and not spend your days scrapping by in minimum wage traineeship jobs to pay rent and fund your studies. 🤦🏼‍♂️🙄

michaelkoziol They’re all scared of getting labelled and not being able to get a job

michaelkoziol That is one bad dye job.

michaelkoziol Agree

phbarratt michaelkoziol Absolutely agree, they are way more conservative than I have ever been, I started protesting the Nam war when I was 13

michaelkoziol Totaly agree students today have no spine.
